Not sure how the quote above makes you feel. At first glance it did make me think twice. Thats because Im apart of a race of people that think they're a color. That is what black is. Black is a color. Black is not a race of people. Black is not a people. Black is not a person. No one is the color black. No one on this earth. And while we're here, no one is the color white.
A certain someone got angry at the above quote. So angry that it made them say that they aren't going back to the coffee shop that had the quote on display. This person has a huge Instagram following. So of course everyone was, or just about everyone, was simply jumping on the bandwagon. But my thing is, if we didn't refer to ourselves as a color, we wouldn't get mad at it when it's used to describe something negetive. And if we want to get technical about it we aren't black. We are different shades of brown. And we shouldn't refer to ourselves as any color. Do we even know why we call ourselves black? Perhaps we should learn, because sharing a term with a color has us sensitive about everything black. UGH!
We will never get anything done or make any kind of progress if we get mad at silly quotes. This is why they think we get mad at everything. Then, when we have a much more pressing reason to get mad, we get ignored.
