I hate the fact that Morris Brown is sitting on some of the most prestigious land in America.....dying. It's surround by Morehouse, Spelman, and Clark Atlanta University. Schools that are apart of our black Ivy League! Why hasn't anyone saved this school yet? I have an idea!
Let's make it the Historically Black College version of SCAD or Juilliard!
How does Morris Brown College of Art and Design sound?
It would be the perfect fit to complement the other schools. I feel as though a black mind should be able to go to the Atlanta University Center and come out with a degree in just about anything. We have some of the most creative minds on the planet. We create some of the best artist on the planet. It only makes sense for us to have our own art school.
The location is also perfect. Atlanta is the current epicenter of Black Hollywood and Black music. The school could be a direct link to all of the movies, tv, and music studios for interns and other programs. The mostly abandoned campus is already used for filming different tv and movie projects. I feel this is suppose to happen. I honestly do feel that this is the destiny of Morris Brown. (Or maybe I'm just a little too excited.)
You could send that kid that wants to rap to get a degree in English with a concentration in poetry. Producers could take audio engineering and music. Singers could get music degrees. Everyone who works behind the scenes could get degrees and certifications in behind the scenes stuff too. And that's just the entertainment part. I can see it offering architecture, app design, fashion, journalism, and a bunch of other art and design programs.
Everything that's currently offered at SCAD, SAE (school of audio engineering) and Juilliard should be offered at this school. We have too much talent and culture to not have our own art school. This would be one of the best art schools in the world.
How about satellite locations where other melanated people are located like Africa and Brazil? Sky's the limit! How about offering entrepreneurship classes?
So let's get this article in the faces of people like Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Outkast, Will and Jada, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Spike Lee, Killer Mike, P.Diddy, Jermaine Dupree, Kandi and others. Let's spread the word.
Or we may just have to do it ourselves.
